I'm kind of blissed out right now. Summer Soul Camp is turning out to be all that and a bowl of cherries. For the next week or so, I'm going to place all of my energy over there, hanging out with the sweet community that has gathered. I'll be here for our weekly kitchen blog hop (I'm still off kitchen duty!), but otherwise I'll pick back up here again in a couple of weeks.
One of the biggest things I'd like to catch up on is our homeschool world. I barely wrote about it this year, and yet, it's been more amazing (and confirming) than ever. There is so much to share, though I'd like to do so carefully as the young lady I am writing about is becoming more and more her own (separate and private) person each day. My goodness, this once little girl will be voting in the next presidential election! But for those of us who homeschool, sharing our stories is important, especially as more families than ever are joining the ranks. And while there are plenty of blogs and websites that focus on homeschooling younger children, information becomes scarce when it comes to homeschooling teens. I think this is in part due to increased desire for privacy, but also because homeschooling high school can potentially look very different than the early years - as has happened for us this year. We kind of blew the lid off of our homeschool box this year and have finally stepped into the unrivaled freedom and potential that home-based education offers. A couple of years ago I saw a video on North Star's website (can't find it now) in which a young man talked about how he "left high school to better prepare for college." This sentiment really resonated with us. I even ran it by my good friend who is a high school AP English teacher and she concurred that his intentions were reasonable and wise. Sooo... it feels like I have a lot of homeschool writing to do. Where we've been and where we're going from here.
In the meantime, be sure to stop in tomorrow to check out what everyone is up to in their kitchens...
