It takes a while to get settled. Maybe I'm never fully nested into a place. Things feel good now, homey and such, but I'm such a nester that as soon as things seem cozy and complete... creativity flows and I'm ready for new curtains, a table swap, etc. I've been this way my whole life, my mom would attest to that. Furniture rearranging on a whim, at nine years old. Once a month sometimes.
My plan is to recover that couch, it was given to us and as comfortable as it is (and in perfect condition too), the floral pattern I don't love so much. I told my family not to expect any changes though until Spring at the earliest, unless of course they feel like sewing a new cover themselves. (sneaky mama)
This house is funny in that the whole back half of the first floor is one big room. I love it. I am cooking, and my people are there. Emily is studying, I am kneading bread dough. Adam is making Sunday morning pancakes, I'm listening to tunes in the living room. After years of living with many separate rooms to make up the general living space, this open-feel suits family living nicely. It reminds me of one time sitting in Lonesome Lake Hut up in the White Mountains. We were tired in a good, sweaty, post-hike-glory kind of way... empty bellies and all. I remember thinking I should have been busy re-hydrating some food, or lying my wool socks out to dry; but instead I sat struck by the warm, open, communal space of the lodge. All matter of living happened in one wide open room. Cooking, reading, congregating... this is the closest I've come to that sort of feeling in my residence that I can recall as an adult. Very pleased.
We are not without something to eat these days, that is for sure. My kitchen has been serving as part time photo studio lately, as is the case when a workshop approaches. So much chopping, sizzling, baking, blending. And then, lots of picture snapping and sampling. If you're hungry, you should come here.
Anyway, I just wanted to pay a little visit, say hello. I've missed being here... things should return to normal-ish next week. I'll be around more then. xo
