Is it too soon to be collecting furniture for the Vermont house? Some changes are needed in the furnishings department for us as we make this move. The house isn't too much smaller than our current home, and actually, it has more rooms, or spaces. The rooms are indeed smaller though, to avoid feeling cramped I think we will need to swap a few things.
In reality, we only have two pieces that I don't see fitting in the new house, and they are big pieces. The rest of our things are older, hence they have a smaller footprint which is just what we need. But it's our living room furniture that we will most likely need to let go of, which isn't a whole lotta love lost. It's a typical, overly stuffed and fluffy modern set of the gigantic variety... furniture is made so much bigger now to catch up with the bigger homes. Seeing as we are going in the opposite direction, I've felt the need to keep my eye open for a few new pieces, particularly of the seating variety.
And they should probably rock too. Well, with all the sitting by the wood stove and things of that sort I imagine will be taking place, rocking sounds rather nice. I'm thinking 3 or 4 various rockers, wooden and solid in construction, sprinkled throughout the house will be just right. If they could be mission in variety like this one, reminding me of the architectural beauty of our current home, well, that will be all the sweeter.
Allow me to introduce you to the first of hopefully many rocking chairs for our new home. I found her while out thrifting this weekend.
Goodness, she's a beauty.
