This is a glimpse of my day today. Nestled in the couch in the lobby of Emily's school, I've been spending a lot of time here for days now. The reasons I won't really get into (this is not Emily's blog after all), I'll just say that for right now, she needs me. Tons. My presence in the building during the school day is her remedy, you can't bottle that. At first it was pretty challenging, this couch a bit of a prison cell. I am just not used to sitting in one place all day. After a couple days of feeling a little batty, I began to shift my attitude and see this space as an opportunity. It's really not about me. She needs me here. So here I will be, supporting and loving her as needed. It won't be forever, and a part of me will miss it when she moves on from this place of needing Mom around so much. For now I've settled into the idea and am really beginning to dig this super comfy couch...planning classes...absorbing the tranquility of Thich Nhat Han...Voodoo Child on the ipod...wondering what the kids think I'm listening to...trying to keep the groove to a minimum.
Today I brought a thermos of my favorite 'please fix what ails me' beverage. The recipe is below and as best I can explain it. It is one of those things that is really a squeeze of this and a scoop of that. I did my best.
Hot Ginger Lemon/Lime Aide
- 1 quart of h2o
- juice of 1 lemon and 1 lime
- 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup honey, to taste
Bring h2o to a boil in a sauce pan. Add the ginger and reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and add juice and honey to your liking. Let steep covered for 10 minutes. Pour into mugs.
Note: If you put this in the fridge until cool it is so good iced. Also, use a very fine grater for the ginger, then you just leave all the ginger goodness right in there, no need to strain.
Do you have a favorite go to comfort drink?
